Dear Friends from China,

Thank you for your patience!  It has taken several months, but the songs are finished.

I loved reading your lyrics.  I wish I could have written songs for all of them, but you can imagine how long that would have taken!

I will be sending completed CDs to you very soon.  In the meantime, I have put all of the finished songs on this site.
Here are the songs!  Click on a title to hear the song and read the lyrics.
The lyrics in this song are beautiful.  "Green willow trees, white bamboo fence..." Can't you just see it?  This song is bittersweet.  It's so sad, but the lyrics are so beautiful that you feel happy and sad at the same time.  This song was recorded at a friend's house.  We were originally going to add drums and a lead guitar, but once we heard the song with just the guitar and vocals, we decided we didn't want to add too much extra stuff that might detract from the lyrics.  We did add a simple bass line, which the bass player says is out of tune.  However, I can't tell, and even if it is out of tune, I think it sounds great.  The beauty of music is that is doesn't have to be perfect.  It doesn't have to be polished and produced.  Songs that are written and played from the heart are, in my opinion, the best songs.

The lyrics in this song are very powerful.  I knew right away that the music needed to start quiet, and then build, and then get quiet again, and then build again. The first version of this song was just me and my guitar.  I really wanted to add drums, bass and electric guitar to this one, so the second version is much louder!  This is a very passionate song:  "I close my eyes, then I find you, you stay in my heart all the time."  I think everyone on earth knows how it feels to remember loved ones who are no longer with us, either because they have died or because they moved away.  When we close our eyes, we can feel them with us.  I love this song.

This is a funny, creative song.  And again, its theme is universal: we all have so much responsibility, so much we have to do, so many expectations we have to fulfill, and sometimes it's just overwhelming.  This was a very difficult song to write because the lyrics, while wonderful, weren't very rhythmic. I had to remove a couple of lines and omit a few words here and there to make them fit the music.  I loved the challenge, and I'm very happy with this song.  We recorded this song acoustically, with just the guitar, vocals and vocal harmonies.

We don't know who wrote this song, but whoever did write it wrote a classic garage rock song.  That's why, after recording the first acoustic version, I decided it really needed a full band.  The best line in this song is, "I remember September twenty-second, Sunday, twenty-five after nine, the day you went away at night."  Sometimes I can't even remember when I graduated from high school, but I remember a boyfriend who broke up with me on December 27, 1987.  I can barely remember his name now, but that day lives on in infamy!  This song is universally true, and I love it.

Another classic garage song!  My old band partner, Courtney Nore, is a big fan of The Ramones, a garage/punk band from New York in the 1970s.  She thought this song sounded just like something they would write, and we decided to have her sing it.  This is a joyful song celebrating the freedom and beauty of being young and finding friendship through a common interest in music.

This is one of the most beautiful, sad songs I have ever seen.  It is so powerful and so poetic that I played it for many people who were amazed that it was written by a high school student all the way across the world.  Everyone could relate to this song.  The most beautiful lyrics in this song are, "You narrowed your eyes because of bright sunshine, you say you don't want to close your eyes. Yeah, I know, the world is so beautiful."  I didn't want to put any drums or bass on this song, so we recorded it with just the guitar, vocals and a singing saw.  The singing saw makes a beautiful, ethereal sound and I thought it fit in perfectly with the lovely, sad lyrics.
